The children in EYFS are learning all about ‘People Who Help Us’ and this week it's the turn of the Fire Fighters. The children have been making their own fire engines, learning what the fire fighters do and also learning the most important of all; Fire Safety. Today in school we were learning the rules of fire safety, the children practised their 'STOP, DROP AND ROLL' technique if their clothes should catch fire. We found out that when the fire fighters come into our house/school we don't ever hide from them. We also practised crawling down low to the ground to escape any smoke. The children were really good and understood the importance of learning these rules! In the afternoon to practice what they had learned we had a real fire drill and the children knew to line up quickly and get out of the school as fast as they could, safely without panicking. We are using this topic in all aspects of our learning. We are learning songs and reading about the different people who help us. This week we are reading 'Charlie the Firefighter.’ The children really enjoy this story as it shows a group of school children visiting a fire station and they meet Charlie a female firefighter. ...
